I looked at all 42 participating restaurants for Downtown Dining Month to help you find the BEST deals available. I took the following into consideration: overall value, deal cost versus normal menu cost, and creativity. Unfortunately, many participating restaurants have just slapped normal menu items together and are charging the normal prices--ugh! To help other avoid this sort of scheme, I knew I had to make this list:
1) Erma's Island
Why: $20.21 will get you the choice of either four jerk chicken quarters OR a quarter pan of Rasta Pasta WITH two sides AND four Jamaican patties. When comparing to the regular menu, this is anywhere from 25-50% off!
2) The Brine Well Eatery
Why: BOGO 50% of all garbage plates (or "stacks" as they call them). At just $12 a plate to begin with, this is a fantastic deal for these delicious (and large) meals!
3) SOULutions
Why: Their two for $30 deal includes two starters, two entrees, two sides, and two desserts! All things considered, this is about 20% off the bill.
4) Shaughnessy's Irish Pub
Why: While this deal is different looking than most of the others, it has the best savings of them all...as long as you are willing to visit twice! Buy $25 worth of food or drinks and get at $15 voucher to use in March through June.
5) 317 at Montgomery Street
Why: Three courses for $35 per person. This sort of meal would typically run you about $50+ at this establishment. While I am not sure if the portions will be smaller for dining week (most likely they will be), I think this is still a great deal that allows you to try out many things at a lower price point.
6) Miss Prissy's
Why: Signature plates, such as the "Stellar Plate" which comes with fried chicken and two sides, are just $10. This is essentially $2.00 off their standard pricing.
7) Sakana-ya
Why: Can you say half priced sushi all month long? Heck yeah!
8) The Hops Spot
Why: An alcoholic beverage, an appetizer (hello poutine!), and a sandwich for $25. I typically hate choosing between poutine and burgers at THS when I go; they are both entrée sized on the normal menu. I love this deal because I can have both and a drink to boot!
9) Talking Cursive
Why: Date night for $35! Two flights, two appetizers, and two main entrees. Not sure about you, but I can hardly do date night (with drinks) for under $50 these days. It's a win for me!
10) Pastabilities
Why: $15 lunch special with a side salad and spicy hot tomato oil. They also have a creative riggies menu and rotating weekly dinner specials just for this month.
11) The Fish Friar
Why: While they always have their $10 daily haddock sandwich lunch deal, the $5 soup and $5 crab fritters on Wednesdays are what landed The Fish Friar on this list!
12) Epicuse
Why: Free cheese pairing with any glass of wine, bottle of wine, or craft beer purchase. Wow! How nice is that?
